Process & Chemical Industries

The UK’s process & chemicals sector has changed almost beyond recognition over the past twenty years.  Once dominated by large companies, it is more likely that the sector participants these days are controlled by private equity firms, or overseas based businesses.  The trend continues to 'off-shoring' of manufacturing to lower-cost locations, but there is also a drive towards specialisation and differentiation into higher value products.  In addition, tougher regulations in Europe, (eg REACH), have increased the onus on producers to act more responsibly on product stewardship throughout the supply chain.

Our involvement in satisfying the demand for experienced boards and in particular independent non-executive directors remains high, as companies strive to focus on niche products and market opportunities.  The sector continues to open its doors to leaders from other industries which bring new skills and expertise to bear.  Regulation also focuses greater attention on the human and environmental impact of products, and consequently companies will need to reinforce such functions in the future.
