A FTSE 50 company decided to amalgamate the role of General Counsel and Company Secretary for the first time. The search boiled down to finding a candidate who could satisfy the Chairman on corporate governance and sensitive boardroom issues as well as be a highly effective contracts negotiator on huge international deals. The successful candidate needed patience to endure a long interview process convincing all parties of his suitability, but being ultimately successful due to a consultative nature, excellent legal mind and attention to detail.
